The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked Vistara to submit a daily report on flight cancellations along with delays. The regulatory body is also keeping a watch on the situation brewing around the airline, which has led to several flight cancellations and delays, to ensure minimum inconvenience to passengers.
This comes right after the issue of non-availability of Vistara pilots which forced the airline to cancel many flights recently.
What did the DGCA say?
The DGCA on Tuesday issued a statement stating that, due to numerous flight disruptions experienced by Vistara, the airline has been instructed to provide daily reports containing comprehensive information on cancelled and delayed flights.
DGCA officials are actively monitoring the situation to ensure adherence to regulations regarding passenger facilities in the event of flight cancellations and delays, aiming to minimise inconvenience for passengers.
Yesterday, the airline cancelled about 50 flights due to non-availability of crew and many flights were delayed. Amid crew-related challenges, Vistara, currently undergoing merger proceedings with Air India, has opted for temporary flight reductions.
Vistara’s pilot issues
As per several media sources, Vistara has faced pilot shortages following the modification of monthly compensation for first officers of its A320 fleet, post the signing of new contracts.
In response, the spokesperson mentioned that teams are proactively addressing customer inconvenience. As a temporary solution, the airline has chosen to reduce the frequency of flights to maintain adequate connectivity across its network.
