The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has approved the operation of 42-seater aircraft at Naini Saini Airport in the frontier district of Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. 

Speaking at the occasion Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, highlighted the significance of the new aircraft’s operation in bolstering air connectivity in Pithoragarh.

“With the cooperation of the Central Government, air services are continuously being strengthened in the remote areas of the state. This will provide a lot of convenience to tourists,” he said.  

Heli services from Haldwani 

Dhami also inaugurated a heli services virtually, under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, from Haldwani to Munsiyari, Pithoragarh, and Champawat, organised by the Civil Aviation Department at the Chief Minister’s residence.

The initiative is poised to boost tourism and generate employment opportunities, according to Dhami. He also outlined the government’s plans to elevate Jolly Grant Airport to international standards and develop Pantnagar Airport into an international hub. 

Additionally, proposals for services like “Joy Ride Service” and “Himalayan Darshan” to explore the state’s scenic areas by air are in the pipeline, aiming to further bolster tourism.

Dhami noted the commencement of fixed-wing aircraft services from Dehradun to Pithoragarh on January 30, 2024, underlining the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and improving the lives of citizens.
