A severe turbulence on Monday struck an Air Europa aircraft, resulting in injuries to at least 30 people. When the mishap happened, the Air Europa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was travelling from Spain to Uruguay. The flight was supposed to arrive in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, but it was diverted to Brazil instead.

Over two dozen people on the flight received varying degrees of injury and one passenger appeared to have been thrown into the overhead baggage area. The individual being saved from the overhead bin is seen in a viral video. The video shows his fellow passengers helping him down, feet-first, as the turbulence subsided.

In the meantime, other videos that have been posted on social media depict the aircraft’s ceiling panels being shattered and oxygen masks hanging above the seats.

After the experience, some passengers needed medical attention. As the aircraft touched down in Brazil, about ten people were taken to a nearby hospital.

According to a local medical team that spoke with Brazilian media, those who struck the ceiling sustained facial cuts and skull fractures.

A similar terrific story occurred in May of this year when there was extreme turbulence mid-flight on a Singapore Airlines flight. On the trip, a British man died, possibly from a heart attack brought on by the abrupt shaking.
