Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has assured coordinated efforts with the Delhi airport and airlines to address the recent disruptions caused by dense fog. Scindia acknowledged the unusual density of fog this year, emphasizing that the situation is slightly unprecedented and has caused diversions and delays in flight operations.

CAT II and CAT III Training Focus

To mitigate the impact of fog, Scindia emphasised coordination with airlines to ensure that pilots are CAT II and CAT III trained, enhancing their capability to operate flights in low visibility conditions.

Daily Monitoring by Civil Aviation Ministry

Scindia also said that the Civil Aviation Ministry is actively monitoring the fog situation daily to stay informed and implement necessary measures for smooth air traffic. The minister outlined measures being implemented to monitor congestion at landing airports, preventing takeoff when direct routing is not available to avoid unnecessary congestion.

While acknowledging the challenges posed by the density of fog, Scindia reassures that the situation is a “transitory phenomenon” that occurs for a limited duration each year.

As the Civil Aviation Ministry collaborates with stakeholders to address the current fog-related disruptions, the focus remains on implementing measures, enhancing pilot training, and closely monitoring the situation to navigate similar challenges in the future.
