According to a release from airport operator MIAL (Mumbai International Airport Ltd) on Monday, the two runways will be closed from 1100 to 1700 hours on May 9 for pre-monsoon maintenance work.
On May 9, 2024, as part of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) monsoon contingency plan, the primary runway 09/27 and the secondary runway 14/32 will temporarily cease operations for pre-monsoon maintenance and repair work, according to the release.
A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued in December has already notified airlines and other stakeholders to arrange for the rescheduling of flights in advance.
The release stated that the maintenance and repair work on the runway will not affect any flight movements or inconvenience passengers.
The airport encompasses nearly 1,033 acres, consisting of a network of runways, taxiways, and aprons.
According to the release, the annual runway maintenance work includes inspecting the runway surface for micro texture and macro texture wear and tear caused by day-to-day operations. This maintenance also aims to strengthen the airside strip.
The airport manages approximately 950 flight movements daily. Runway 09/27 measures 3,448 meters by 60 meters, while runway 14/32 spans 2,871 meters by 45 meters.
