Tiruchirappalli International Airport commences operations

The Tiruchirappalli International Airport’s new terminal, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 2, commenced operations on June 11.

Yesterday, an IndiGo aircraft was welcomed by a water canon salute at the terminal. A video of it was shared by ANI.

The terminal has been built at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore. The two-level facility can accommodate over 4.4 million passengers annually and around 3,500 passengers during peak hours.

The design of the new terminal incorporates traditional elements such as Kolam, a type of decorative art commonly found at the entrances of South Indian homes.

“This will be an important addition to Chennai’s infrastructure. It will boost connectivity and also benefit the local economy,” PM Modi wrote on X in April 2023.
