A Bengaluru-bound IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport shortly after take-off on Friday night due to an engine failure, officials confirmed.

Flight 6E0573, which departed Kolkata at 10:36 PM, returned to the airport at 10:53 PM after the failure of its left engine. According to The Times of India report, a passenger claimed to have seen flames coming from one of the engines. A passenger told TOI that shortly after take-off, he heard a strange noise and saw flames coming from one of the engines before the plane made its return to Kolkata.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson stated that no fire or sparks were reported during the incident.

In an official statement, IndiGo said, “Flight 6E 573 from Kolkata to Bangalore on August 30, returned to origin after take-off due to technical issues. The pilot followed necessary procedures and landed back at Kolkata. Passengers were served with refreshments and an alternate aircraft was arranged to operate the flight. Both runways were handed over to Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ensure the aircraft’s safe landing.
