InterGlobe Aviation, the operator of India’s budget airline IndiGo, announced on Friday that it has conducted trials on new software aimed at enhancing passenger safety and comfort. The airline is also reviewing its in-flight safety announcements as part of this initiative.
IndiGo plans to conduct another trial of the safety and comfort software for its Airbus fleet in the next two to three weeks.
This focus on safety comes in the wake of an incident last week when an IndiGo flight en route to Jammu had to divert to Amritsar, approximately 210 kilometres away, due to turbulence and adverse weather conditions in Jammu.
Passenger safety concerns in recent times
Heightened attention to turbulence and passenger safety follows a recent Singapore Airlines flight that experienced severe turbulence, resulting in one fatality and injuries to numerous passengers.
Globally, flight crews have been advising passengers to keep their seatbelts fastened at all times to ensure safety. In response, IndiGo has developed specific in-flight announcements for situations like turbulence and inclement weather.
“These announcements address scenarios such as mist in the cabin, prohibition of mobile use during strong weather conditions, delays in take-off, interrupted service, and operational diversions,” the airline stated.
IndiGo did not specify the exact features or areas of improvement targeted by the new software.
