In a significant development aimed at boosting tourism and enhancing cultural ties, Uzbekistan Airways has announced the launch of direct flights from Tashkent to Goa, starting on October 27, 2024. The route will operate twice a week and will be serviced by the modern Airbus A320 Neo, connecting Tashkent to Goa’s Manohar International Airport (Mopa). This new air link is expected to open up fresh avenues for tourism and promote cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and India, particularly with the scenic state of Goa.

The introduction of this route is the result of persistent efforts by key stakeholders, including the Indian Embassy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan’s Embassy, and various tour operators. The Goa Department of Tourism played a crucial role in these discussions, reflecting the state’s commitment to expanding its global reach. The upcoming Tashkent International Tourism Fair (TITF) will further highlight Goa’s potential as a prime destination, with the state’s tourism department taking part in the event.

Minister for Tourism, Rohan A. Khaunte, hailed the launch of the direct flights as a “milestone” for Goa, saying, “This new connection will not only boost tourism but also strengthen our cultural ties with Uzbekistan. We are committed to developing Goa as a well-connected and accessible destination for travelers worldwide.”

Suneel Anchipaka, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), emphasized the broader implications of this move. “Uzbekistan Airways’ decision to commence flights to Goa underscores the growing global interest in our state as a prime tourism destination,” he stated. The increased connectivity is set to enhance the travel experience for visitors from Uzbekistan and position Goa as a year-round destination.

This new route is aligned with Goa’s strategy to diversify its tourist base and promote the state beyond its traditional markets. As Uzbekistan tourists begin to explore Goa’s unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty, the region is poised to witness an uptick in its tourism sector, bringing vibrancy to its economy and global standing.
