In a move towards bolstering domestic air connectivity, the Guwahati-based JettWings Airways on Tuesday informed that it has received approval for flight service across 12 sectors in the Northeast, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

The newest entrant in the Indian aviation sector will connect the airports at Pakyong, Guwahati, Cooch Behar, Kushinagar, Gaya, Bareilly, Kanpur, and Agra under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik)

“JettWings Airways will be the first airline from the Northeast region scheduled to operate its fixed-wing aircraft on commercial routes from this year with modern deck turbofan regional jets, supported by a robust business plan to acquire and operate 42 aircraft in the first five years,” the airline mentioned in an official statement.

A dedicated airline for northeast

The carrier is dubbed as the first airline from the northeast region that aims to strengthen air connectivity in rugged terrain, which has limited road infrastructure.

By strategically deploying these aircraft, the domestic carrier is eyeing to enhance regional connectivity, promote economic, and travel experience for passengers. Jettwings Airways is scheduled to operate a modern fleet of state-of-the-art aircraft, including the ATR 72-600 turboprop models.

Notably in June 2023, the airline became the first private commercial carrier serving the North Eastern region when it received a no objection certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA).

Headquartered in Guwahati, JettWings Airways was cleared to operate scheduled commuter air transport services under UDAN regional connectivity scheme

UDAN’s outreach

It is noteworthy that UDAN RCS 5.3 will currently help the airline in connecting significant locations that have immense tourism capacities and religious hotspots in the Northeast and other regions.

India’s northeast region has immense potential given its proximity to Southeast Asian countries, and the government’s plan to eventually introduce the international UDAN Scheme will give a huge fillip to an airline like JettWings Airways, the company statement further mentioned.
