Indian airlines issued advisories and warned about possible disruptions as winter fog and poor visibility plagued northern and central India. Travellers have been cautioned about issues while travelling from Delhi, Varanasi, Udaipur, Guwahati, Vizag, Jammu, Patna, Jaisalmer and  Darbhanga. Several IndiGo flights scheduled for January 2 were also cancelled preemptively on Thursday evening.

IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet have also urged passengers to closely track their flight status and monitor updates before heading to the airport. All three carriers issued a series of travel and weather advisories via X.

IndiGo flags fog across the network, offers support and rebooking options

IndiGo had announced cancellations ahead of time — predicting that early-morning fog was Delhi is likely to affect visibility. It announced on Thursday that some flights for the next morning (January 2) have been cancelled in advance to cut down the waiting time at the airport. The airline stated that its team was “closely monitoring conditions” and advised the flyers to check flight status online. In case of cancellations, passengers can rebook or seek a refund through its “Plan B” options.

“Low visibility and fog over Hyderabad and Guwahati may impact flight schedules. We are keeping a close watch on the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” read an early morning update.

A third post from IndiGo stated that fog continued to hover over Udaipur, Vizag, Jaisalmer, Jammu, and Varanasi — leading to slower flight movements. It also cautioned that departures and arrivals to and from these cities and some routes across its network may experience short delays, and it appealed to the passengers to check live status as it works with the authorities to normalise operations.

SpiceJet, Air India issue advisories

SpiceJet issued multiple weather update posts, stating that bad weather in Darbhanga (DBR), Hyderabad (HYD), Udaipur (UDR), and Patna (PAT) may affect all departures, arrivals, and other linked flights. The airline has asked passengers travelling through these airports to check their status on its website.

Air India, in its official post on X, stated that dense fog and reduced visibility in Delhi and parts of northern India could affect schedules and create ripple effects across its network. Under its FogCare initiative, guests on select flights during the fog window will receive advance alerts and can change flights without paying extra or can choose a full refund without penalty. Air India has also advised travellers to verify flight status and allow extra time.
