Flight operations at Assam’s Rupsi airport resumed on Thursday after nearly a year, with Alliance Air operating an ATR-72 aircraft. The airline launched a flight from Guwahati to Kolkata, with a stop at Rupsi in Kokrajhar district, Western Assam. The state’s Minister of Handloom, Textiles, and Sericulture, U G Brahma, marked the occasion by lighting a lamp at the ceremony.

Alliance Air will now operate three weekly flights between Kolkata and Guwahati, with a stopover at Rupsi. Flights to and from Rupsi had been suspended since November 7 of last year, following the previous operator, Fly Big, ceasing its services. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on X, “Flights have resumed from Rupsi airport, providing a critical connectivity link to Western Assam.”

Sandeep Patil, the Airport-in-Charge, noted that the flights, part of the UDAN scheme, will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. These flights will provide a vital transportation link for students, businesspeople, and patients from Kokrajhar and Dhubri districts in Western Assam.

Originally built during the British era, Rupsi airport was reopened for operations on May 8, 2021, after a Rs 100-crore renovation under the UDAN-2 and UDAN-4 schemes.
