Digi Yatra will soon be available in both regional and international languages, according to a senior official. The Digi Yatra app aimed at enabling seamless movement at airport checkpoints.
Currently operational at 24 airports, the service is expected to expand to 4-5 more airports in the coming months.
Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation on Tuesday (October 1) announced that a pilot project is planned for June next year to connect two countries using Digi Yatra. This initiative will also allow foreign citizens to use the service.
Speaking at the CAPA India Digital Aviation Summit in New Delhi, Khadakbhavi mentioned that a campaign will be launched to raise awareness about the facility.
Concerns about data privacy
While Digi Yatra is gradually gaining popularity, concerns about passenger data privacy have been raised by some.
The system, based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), enables contactless and smooth passenger movement through various airport checkpoints.
Introduced in December 2022, Digi Yatra is managed by a not-for-profit entity and supported by key stakeholders, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and major airports like Cochin, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
