Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has said that 12 more airports in India are ready to implement the Digi Yatra facility. As of now, there are 15 airports in the country have the facility for seamless and contactless movement for passengers.
The minister told the Lok Sabha that 12 more airports are ready for the implementation with 11 preparing to have the facility.
Is Digi Yatra data stored?
During the Question Hour, Naidu told the data passengers share on the Digi Yatra App is not stored in any centralised system, adding that the government is committed to protecting data privacy.
“The app facilitates the passengers to enroll their verifiable credentials using Aadhaar card number and to keep their personal information on their smartphones to ensure data privacy,” the minister said.
Based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), Digi Yatra enables contactless and seamless movement of passengers at various airport checkpoints in India.
According to Naidu, the Digi Yatra app has been downloaded by over 4.3 million users, and the expansion of this facility will be carried out in phases.
