Dense fog continued to disrupt flight operations at Srinagar airport on Saturday, officials reported. A thick blanket of fog enveloped the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, reducing visibility and delaying all morning flights, they said.
“Due poor visibility at Srinagar airport, no flight operations have taken place so far,” officials confirmed. Airlines have rescheduled their morning flights, awaiting visibility improvements.
This marks the second day in a row that fog has impacted operations at Srinagar airport. On Friday, low visibility caused delays in morning flights, with one flight diverted. Operations only resumed around noon once conditions improved.
With snowfall predicted in Kashmir starting Saturday, the administration has ramped up preparations to address potential challenges. The district magistrate’s office in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for the public and directed departments to remain on high alert.
“In view of the rainfall and snowfall forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar station, snowfall is expected from January 4 to January 6, the general public is advised to follow safety guidelines issued by the district disaster management authority (DDMA) and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions to ensure safety and minimise disruptions,” said the advisory released by additional deputy commissioner.
