India’s busiest airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi faced a massive power outage on Monday. The flight operations remained unaffected, according to three sources familiar with the incident.

The outage, lasting around seven minutes, impacted services such as baggage collection and e-gate entry. The airport, owned and operated by GMR Airports, comprises three terminals handling both commercial and cargo flights.

During the brief power cut, air conditioners in the terminal ceased functioning but were quickly restored. The incident occurred amid a period of record-breaking temperatures in the capital, which has been grappling with water shortages and frequent power cuts.

An airline source, requesting anonymity, suggested that the outage could lead to delays in check-in and boarding processes.

Social media was abuzz with images of long queues at check-in counters as passengers waited for systems to reboot. Despite the temporary inconvenience, the situation was managed without significant delays to flight schedules.

GMR Airports did not immediately respond to requests for comment, likely due to the public holiday in India. The incident highlights the vulnerabilities in infrastructure amid rising demand and climatic challenges.
