Karnataka’s Minister for Infrastructure Development, M B Patil, has said that the location for Bengaluru’s second airport could be finalised soon, The Indian Express reported. Patil, on Friday, announced that a decision will be made following a high-level meeting set for next week. This comes after a discussion involving Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge.
On the matter of reports suggesting the location had been finalised, Patil dismissed them saying that five sites have been shortlisted. These sites include – Dabaspet, Nelamangala, Bidadi, and Harohalli. During the meeting, a new potential location was also brought up for discussion.
“No final decision has been made yet. We are still in the process of reviewing the identified sites,” he added.
Discussing the selection of location of the airport, Patil said that their focus would be on public convenience and supporting industrial growth. He also assured that the decision would be made free from political influence, ensuring the site chosen best meets the needs of the public and supports economic development.
To facilitate the decision-making process, officials have been instructed to prepare feasibility reports for the shortlisted sites. The urgency to finalise a location for the second airport is driven by the expected congestion at Kempegowda International Airport.
