Flight services to and from the national capital again faced disruption on Saturday (January 20) morning due to persistent dense fog and severe cold conditions, leading to inconvenience for passengers.
Delays and cancellations marred operations at Delhi International Airport as dense fog and low visibility persisted. The Flight Information Display Board (FIDB) at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport revealed multiple flight delays, with some cancellations attributed to severe fog conditions in various parts of the country.
Orange alert issued in Delhi amid dense fog
IMD forecasts the continuation of dense to very dense fog conditions over parts of North India for the upcoming five days. In the next 24 hours, the IMD predicts no significant change in minimum temperatures over Northwest India. However, a gradual increase of around 2 degrees Celsius is anticipated over the next seven days.
Presently, Delhi and its adjacent regions are under an “orange alert,” as announced by the weather department in a recent statement. According to the IMD, isolated areas in Delhi are set to experience cold to severe cold day conditions, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to remain at approximately 15 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Low visibility in north India
As per the India Meteorological Department, visibility dropped to a minimum of 50 meters at approximately 5:30 am on Saturday in specific regions, impacting areas including Punjab, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and East Rajasthan.
