Air India on Monday (July 1) announced that it is all set to launch a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in Maharashtra’s Amravati, as part of an initiative by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), to impart training to 180 commercial pilots yearly. This Flight Training Organisation (FTO) has been authorized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) at Belora Airport. 

Air India’s Managing Director and CEO Campbell Wilson said,” The FTO at Amravati will be a noteworthy initiative in the direction of making the Indian aviation sector more independent and offering more opportunities for the youth in fulfilling their dreams of flying as pilots. The young pilots who will come out of this FTO will contribute to Air India’s aim of becoming a world-class airline, as it marches ahead towards its transformation journey.”

All about Flight Training Organisation

The training organization will be spread over 10 acres of land and will have digitally-enabled classrooms, a maintenance unit, a hostel facility as per global standards, and a digitized operation center as announced by Air India. ”The FTO will start functioning from Q1 FY26 and will provide budding pilots a platform for being trained with a world-class course as per standard in global schools,” mentioned Sunil Bhaskaran, Director of the Aviation Academy at Air India.

Air India-MADC Collaboration

Air India has tied up with the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) to establish and manage the organization for 30 years. The initiative is expected to generate more than Rs 1000 crore for the economic growth of the state and will aid in technical ventures, skilling, and small entrepreneurial schemes.

Meanwhile, MADC’s Managing Director and Vice Chairman Swati Pandey said that the association between Air India and MADC will help in job creation not only in the aviation sector but also in other fields and will boost Maharashtra’s economy at large. The collaboration is anticipated to contribute over Rs 1000 crore to the GDP of the financial capital of India.
