An Air India flight operating from Kochi to Mumbai experienced a runway excursion after landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday amid heavy rain, the airline confirmed.
Flight AI2744 was attempting to land in challenging weather conditions when it veered slightly off the runway after touchdown. Despite the scare, the aircraft managed to taxi safely to the designated gate.
“All passengers and crew members have since disembarked safely. There were no injuries reported,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement. The spokesperson added that the aircraft has been grounded for detailed checks as a precautionary measure.
In the aftermath of the incident, minor damages were reported to the airport’s primary runway, 09/27.
“To ensure continuity of operations, the secondary runway 14/32 has been activated,” a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) spokesperson confirmed.
