Air India Express, the low-cost arm of Air India, announced on Thursday that it will add Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun to its network from September 1, 2025. The expansion marks the airline’s continuing push into high-potential markets as it cements its position as the country’s fastest-growing carrier.

“With a fleet of 116 aircraft, Air India Express is expanding its footprint with the addition of three new cities to its network. In the first phase, these cities will be connected to our Bengaluru hub,” the airline said in a statement.

Introductory fares from Rs 4,100

Bookings for the new routes have already opened, with introductory fares starting at Rs 4,100. Tickets can be purchased via the Air India Express website as well as other authorised booking channels.

Flight schedule and frequency

From 1 September, Air India Express will operate two daily flights on the Ahmedabad–Bengaluru route, two daily flights on the Chandigarh–Bengaluru route and one daily flight on the Dehradun–Bengaluru route.

All services will operate in both directions, ensuring daily connectivity between these new destinations and Bengaluru.

Focus on metros and emerging cities

According to the airline, the addition of Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun is part of a broader plan to strengthen links between major metros and emerging cities. This approach aims to boost both business and leisure travel while tapping into markets with strong growth potential.

“With our fleet now exceeding 115 aircraft, we continue to build a robust network focusing on connectivity between metros and emerging cities, offering great value and comfort,” said Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express.

Singh emphasised that passengers can expect a “warm, reliable flying experience” with features such as hot meals, comfortable seating, and fare options tailored to individual needs. The airline’s strategy combines competitive pricing with onboard amenities to appeal to a broad range of travellers.

Air India growth strategy

Industry experts see the move as part of Air India Express’s aggressive expansion following its integration into the Tata Group’s airline portfolio. By targeting emerging markets while maintaining a strong metro presence, the carrier aims to capture a larger share of India’s growing domestic aviation sector.

With the new connections starting in September, passengers from Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Dehradun will have more direct access to Bengaluru, one of India’s busiest hubs for technology, business, and education.
