The Tata Group-owned Air India has announced the cancellation of its flights to Tel Aviv till October 14. This comes after the Hamas militant group attacked Israel yesterday.

“Our flights to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended till 14th October, 2023, for the safety of our passengers and crew,” an airline spokesperson said.

Post the attack by Hamas, both sides are engaged in a conflict and hundreds of people have been killed. The militant group has also abducted several people.

Air India said it will extend all possible support to passengers who have a confirmed booking on any flight till October 14.

The carrier operates five weekly flights to Tel Aviv from New Delhi. The service is on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the airline cancelled its flights to and from the city.

India and US react to the war in Israel

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the “terrorist attacks” on Israel and expressed solidarity with the country.

US President Joe Biden also criticised the attack and expressed solidarity with Israel.

He said that the US stands with Israel and “will not ever fail to have their back”. “We’ll make sure that they have the help their citizens need and they can continue to defend themselves,” he added.

Hezbollah attacks Israel’s military

Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group on Sunday fired dozens of rockets and shells onto three Israeli military posts in the Shebaa Farms “in solidarity” with the Palestinian people. Israel also launched a series of artillery barrages into southern Lebanon in response. The Israeli military said it fired artillery into Lebanon where cross-border mortar fire was launched. “IDF (Israel Defense Forces) artillery is currently striking the area in Lebanon from where a shooting was carried out,” it said.
