Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Thursday tabled a Rs 8,08,736 crore Budget for the 2025-26 financial year in the state assembly. The main focus of the Budget was on economic growth, research & development(R&D) and Information Technology. The Budget allocation has been 9.8% higher in comparison to the last year’s Rs 7,36,437 crore.
Khanna praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, mentioning, ’’The state which experienced financial challenges in 2017, has now doubled its economy, with the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) expected to reach Rs27.51 crore in 2024-25,’’ as stated by PTI.
Key allocations announced in UP Budget 2025
The Budget focuses on several areas, as 22% have been assigned for development , 13% granted for education and 11% for agriculture and 6% has been awarded for healthcare. To enhance the technology and innovation sector, the government plans to build an Artificial Intelligence (AI) City and a Cybersecurity Research Park.
An amount of Rs 145 crore has been given to establish 58 municipal bodies as smart cities, each municipality has been given a share of Rs 2.5 crore. The government also plans to modernize the Legislative Assembly and will also launch smart classrooms and laboratories for schools and polytechnics.
Details on Zero Poverty Abhiyan
The government’s ‘Zero Poverty Abhiyan’ which was launched on October 2,2024 goal is to figure out the poorest families in every Gram Panchayat and lift their annual income to minimum of Rs 1.25,000, as highlighted by Khanna.
Financial status of Uttar Pradesh
The state’s financial standing has remarkably improved, as NITI Aayog has recognised UP as a ‘front runner state in the field of capital expenditure, health and economic growth.
Khanna highlighted while presenting the Budget, ‘’as per RBI report, Uttar Pradesh’s tax revenue share is among the highest in the country’’. The per capita income has surged from Rs 52,671 in 2016-17 to 93,514 in 2023-24 wher3eas the state’s fiscal deficit continues to be under control.
