In an apparent fallout of the Karnataka election results, the UPA government has decided to postpone the next Left-UPA meeting on the Indo-US nuclear deal, scheduled on May 28, to sometime next month. Government circles claimed that it was a ?purely technical? matter that required the change in date, but the Left leaders are looking at it as a result of the ?recent political developments.?
Confirming the postponment, CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechury said the Left were told that the ?non-availability? of ministers was the reason for the postponement. ?We were told that ministers AK Antony and Pranab Mukherjee are on a tour on the day,? Yechury told FE.
However, RSP general secretary TJ Chandrachoodan, also a member of the committee, said the change in the date was a fallout of the ?recent? political developments. ?All along, the UPA was in a hurry to push forward the Indo-US nuclear deal.
