An industry body from Uttar Pradesh has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court order that refused to restrain GAIL from supplying natural gas to new units coming up in the Taj Trapezium Zone.

Alleging that such unregulated supply of gas was causing damage to the Taj, National Chamber of Industries and Commerce, said GAIL had entered into a gas supply agreement with over hundred other industrial units without even obtaining the permission from the UP State Pollution Board.

It is a fact that the then 292 existing units covered by the earlier 2006 apex court judgment are not allowed to expand their sphere of operations and no new unit was permitted to be set-up in the TTZ; therefore the question of demand of natural gas exceeding the quantity of APM gas allocated by the petroleum ministry for TTZ could not arise, the industry body added.
