Three NDA-ruled states have topped the list of good performers, according to the Twenty Point Programme, 2006 review.
Andhra Pradesh is the first and only Congress-ruled state which could make it in the list at the 10th spot.
The top three states are Gujarat, Jharkhand and Punjab, all ruled by NDA governments.
The revelation comes as an embarrassment to the Centre, which would have certainly wanted to keep the facts under wraps .
The Twenty Point Programme 2006, has around 35 schemes under it for socio-economic improvement and is monitored under 19 parameters by various state and Central agencies.
?I want to commend all states for their performance, and certain states like Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttarakhand for their performance especially,? minister for statistics and programme implementation Sriprakash Jaiswal said while addressing the review meeting.
The BJP was quick to seize the advantage with party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman saying that it was ironic that the Twenty Point Programme ? so wholly identified with former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and one of the better social sector interventions of the government ? had failed in the Congress-ruled states. ?This shows the difference in governance in the Congress and NDA ruled- states,? she said.
The Congress was quick to defend its governments. ?Till recently, there was a Congress-led government in Punjab. Jharkhand had been under Central rule. I have not had a look at the full report and, therefore, I cannot give a full comment,? said Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari.
