The new Railway Board chairman, Kalyan Kumar Jena, said on Saturday that a team will be set up to monitor the progress of all the model stations in the country.
Jena told reporters here that five railway stations in each of the railway division have been taken up for converting them into model stations. A team must review the progress of the work as two years have already passed since the project was taken up, he said.
According to him, the basic idea behind setting up of model stations in each division was to give it a ‘touch and feel’ to ensure that it provided all the basic amenities.
The chairman said his focus would be on three areas–safety, growth in both freight and passenger revenues and customers’ concern.
He said with 1.4 million employees, railways would be converted into a modern, fast and efficient network to take care of its stakeholders.
Jena said the railways would also lay stress on the development of the dedicated corridor and the high-speed one.
Admitting that the low-cost airlines have been eating into the revenues of railways to some extent, the chairman said with the introduction of the Garib Rath, the loss would be compensated.
