Tata Steel, which has been slapped with a demand notice of R32,815 crore for extraction of iron ore and manganese in excess of the approved mining plan, is going to approach the state government against the notice.

Admitting that the Tata Steel has received the notice from the government, a company spokesperson said, ?We are confident of resolving the issue with the government amicably,? the spokesperson asserted. ?We always undertakes mining in strict conformity with existing laws.?

Sources in the government has said that the steel & mines department has revised the demand notice against Tata Steel by reducing the penalty to R27,000 crore from R32,815 crore.
