Tata Steel?s Indian operations during July witnessed a substantial increase in hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production compared to the corresponding month of 2008. Its sales for the month too showed an upward swing of 18% at 0.478 million tonne from 0.405m tonne in July 2008.

While the steel major’s hot metal production went up by 24%, from 0.482m tonne in July 2008 to 0.597m tonne in July 2009, its crude steel output increased by 27%, from 0.436m tonne to 0.553m tonne. Saleable steel production was up by 18% at 0.478m tonne from 0.405m tonne.

Sales of long products increased 48% in the month under review

compared to the year-ago period, the company said. It also recorded its best-ever hot metal production of 0.597 mt during the month, the previous best being 0.592 mt in March 2009.

While the company’s steel melting shops (SMS) recorded their best-ever production of crude steel at 0.553 mt in July (the previous best being 0.549 mt in March 2009), one of its steel melting shops (LD#1) posted its best-ever production figure of 0.240 mt (the previous best being 0.239 mt in March 2009).

The company’s hot strip mill also posted the best-ever production of 0.315 mt, better than the previous best figure of 0.311 mt in March 2009.
