Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati is likely to unveil 40 statues, including six of her own, in Lucknow on July 3.

In addition, she is likely to inaugurate Kanshiram Memorial and Gautam Buddha Sthal, both being developed on VIP Road in Alambagh. The chief minister may also inaugurate the two stupas that are being built at a cost of Rs 500 crore inside the Ambedkar Memorial complex in Gomtinagar.

While officials say the July 3 programme is tentative, preparations are on in full swing. Arrangements are being made for a gathering of over 6,000 at the Ambedkar Memorial.

Divisional commissioner Prashant Trivedi, who is also the chairman of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), said nothing had been finalised yet for July 3 as construction of the memorials is incomplete.

While the LDA is the nodal agency for the memorials, the work is being executed by the UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam. UPRNN managing director C P Singh refused to comment. Engineers at the memorial said they had instructions to complete work before July 3.

The Kanshiram Memorial has been developed on a 42-acre area on Lucknow?s VIP Road at a cost of Rs 370 crore. It has the biggest dome in the country.

The Buddha Sthal has been developed on a 100-acre plot opposite the Kanshiram Memorial at a cost of Rs 90 crore. The statues Mayawati is likely to unveil are at and near the Ambedkar Memorial, Samata Mulak Chauraha and Buddha Sthal.
