All may not be quite well between the father-son duo in the topsy turvy politics of Karnataka. When the state?s former chief minister, HD Kumaraswamy, told his ?humble farmer? father and former Prime Minister, HD Deva Gowda, to give him the space to script the next chapter in the evolving political drama in the state, many did not realise that the statement held a hidden celestial meaning. According to sources close to the two, what prompted Kumaraswamy to sent a veiled rebuke to his father was nothing but astrology, the last refuge of all Indian politicians when they reach a dead end. It seems trusted oracles told the former chief minister that his stars were at loggerheads with those of his father, and that it would be better for his political career if he were to chart an independent course. Now, sources close to the former prime minister lament how stardust has proved thicker than blood.
Tough daughter
Nowadays, Tamil Nadu?s rising daughter, Kanimozhi, spends most of her time defending her CM father M Karunanidhi, who is under fire from the saffron brigade for his caustic remarks against Lord Ram. The devout daughter first tried to fend off criticism against her father by saying that his remarks against Lord Ram were taken out of context and unnecessarily played up by the media. And at a recent public meeting, she even dubbed critics of the Sethusamudram project (read critics of Karunanidhi) as caste Hindus trying to subvert a Dravidian dream project. Cynics well versed in DMK ideology say it would appear that Kanimozhi wears the pants in the party now.
