At last, somebody has noticed that the entertainment sector (?Soft empowerment?, Dec 21) has been treated like something that washed ashore, and has still managed to work its way up, as refugees do, to become India?s own ?love song to itself?. But don?t assume that ?corporatisation? is a wonder solution to cinema?s problems of ?unprofessionalism?. This is a business of passionate sensitivity, and corporate oversight can hurt.

Switch strategy

Before analysts dismiss the possibility of India?s software Switch firms (?Window dressing?, Dec 21) switching to a higher value-added growth path, consider the fact that our computer visionaries inspired by Rajiv Gandhi?s 21st century target are now a generation apart from the young crowd of techies to have gained adolescence in the post-Internet world. Switch companies must form insurgency cells of young whizkids, empower them to take up high-risk, high-return projects, and if one happens to succeed, let it become the task force to transform the entire operation.

Heroes? task

Wal-Mart is welcomed (Eavesdropper, Dec 21) by not only those who worry about worms in their chocolates, but also by those who believe that retail transformation can change lives for the better. It is still a heroic challenge to sell this revolutionary idea here.
