Punjab will soon have a Rs 360-crore mega food park near Jalandhar for which it will receive Rs 50 crore grant from the Centre.
Stating this, Manoranjan Kalia, minister of local government and industries & commerceof the state on Thursday said that this mega food park will be set up under the Mega Food Park scheme of ministry of food processing industries, of the Centre by Unity Infrastructure Limited near Jalandhar.
He said that this step will give a big boost to the food processing industry in Punjab as excellent infrastructure for food processing industry along the value chain from the farm to the market will be provided in this mega food park. VK Janjua, secretary and director, industries & commerce said that a total of 10 mega food parks have been sanctioned by the Centre out of which one has been given to Punjab. The central government has granted in principle approval to Unity Infrastructure Limited for setting up this park in Punjab. The food processing units under the scheme will be located at a Central Processing Centre (CPC) having common infrastructure required for processing, packaging, quality control labs and trade facilitation centres.
The CPC will be set up on 50-100 acre. The food processing park will have around 30 to 35 food processing units with a collective investment of Rs 250 crore that would eventually lead to annual turnover of about Rs 450 to Rs 500 crore and will create around 30,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
