In what could significantly raise Reliance Power’s profile as a hydropower generator, the private power company has bagged five projects in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
The company is already in the process of developing seven hydro projects worth 4,600 mw capacity in the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. With the new projects, the company’s hydro portfolio reaches 5,300 mw. This is the first time the company has entered Himachal’s hydro sector.
Reliance Power was selected as developer for these projects in bidding held by the state government recently. Bids were appraised on the basis of additional free power offered by developers. The projects bagged by Reliance in Himachal are 300 mw Purthi, 130 mw Sumte Kothang, 104 mw Lara Sumta, 94 mw Teling and 44 mw Shangling. The company will build and operate these projects for 40 years before handing them over to the state government.
