British luxury car maker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said it will take it one to two years to establish its pre-owned car programme, Provenance, to new geographies, including India. This move, it said, is driven by the increasing number of the Rolls Royce on the roads globally and its attempt to reach out to a newer set of clientele. Last year, Rolls-Royce sold 2,711 units globally.
In the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the company?s pre-owned programme is available in markets like Australia and the company plans to take it to other countries in the region. Interestingly, many owners of the car in the APAC region tend to hold on to the cars or pass them on to their family, making it more challenging for companies into the pre-owned business. ?We are currently building up our pre-owned car business across countries. About 70% of all the Rolls-Royce built till now are still capable to run on the road and that just explains the need for a pre-owned car programme. It is an important business and we feel that our pre-owned car programme will help us reach out to a newer set of customers and at the same time, make note that the cars are maintained and serviced in proper shape,? said Torsten Muller Otvos, chief executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. He did not give any guidance on the potential of the business and the market size.
Other luxury makers like Porsche AG already runs a pre-owned programme.
