Orissa has lined up investments exceeding Rs 6 lakh crore in mineral-based industries like steel, power, alumina and aluminium. Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, the governor of the state has disclosed this data on Monday while delivering his speech on the opening day of the budget session at the Orissa State Assembly.

A vote-on-account budget would be presented during the session in place of a full-fledged budget in view of the ensuing general elections, which is due by May, 2009. The entire opposition, led by Congress, boycotted the governor?s address.

?The total value of investments exceeds Rs 6 lakh crore,? Bhandare said while mentioning ?a large number of investment proposals are being received in the state for setting up mineral-based industries such as steel, power, alumina and aluminium.?

The governor said about 49 MoUs have been signed with various steel promoters for setting up of plants. ?The proposed investment is in the order of about Rs 2 lakh crore with the estimated production of about 74.66 million tonne per annum of steel.?he said.
