Orient Green Power Company Ltd (OGPCL), the largest independent renewable energy company in India and part of the Shriram group, is looking at opportunities in the overseas markets, including the US and the South East Asian region to become one of the major renewable energy power producers in the world over the next few years, said T Shivaraman, vice-chairman and CEO, Orient Green Power.
The company, which is involved in developing various projects (wind, biomass) across different states through wholly-owned subsidiaries, is looking at strategic partners for these projects to achieve its desired 1,000 MW capacity by 2013, he added.
Responding to queries at a press conference here on Tuesday, Shivaraman said, ?We have entered into Sri Lanka and Croatia with 10 MW project each to start with. We are in talks with these countries to add more capacity over the next two years. Of the projected target of 1,000 MW by 2013, nearly 200 MW of capcity will be from these two countries.?
“Given the low interest cost and incentives apart from other benefits, the company will look at entering into the US and South East Asian markets in a big way,? he said.
