State-run explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has found more gas in a block in Rajasthan, the company?s exploration director DK Pande said on Thursday on the sidelines of an energy conference.
He, however, did not disclose the possible reserves in the block, or the estimated rate of production of gas. ?We have tested one zone and the second zone is under testing… We will know the potential reserves in the block in two to three weeks,? Pande said.
The block was awarded to ONGC before the country started auctioning exploration blocks under the New Exploration and Licensing Policy (Nelp) in 1999, Pande said.
Private-sector exploration company Cairn India had earlier discovered crude oil in the Barmer region of Rajasthan.
Production from that block, in which ONGC holds 30% stake, is expected to start by mid-2009.
The peak production from the Barmer block is projected to reach 1,50,000 barrels per day, which is 20% of the country?s current oil production.
