The Orissa government is expected to sign MoUs for 4,520-mw power projects with an investment of Rs 25,444 crore in November 2008. NTPC Ltd and Sahara India are proposing to set up two separate power plants in Orissa.
NTPC Ltd is planning to put up a 3,200-mw coal-fired thermal power project, with an investment of Rs 19,840 crore in Orissa?s Dhenkanal district. Even though the exact location of the project is yet to be decided upon, the project has got water-supply linkage from Mahanadi river.
Sahara India Power Corp Ltd, in collaboration with China Guodion Overseas Power Ltd, is setting up its 1,320-mw power project with an estimated cost of Rs 5,604 crore in Balangir district. The project has got water supply linkage from Tel river.
At present, these projects are under the surveillance of the Orissa government?s high level clearance authority (HLCA), headed by the state chief minister. The state government will sign the MoUs after HLCA clears the projects, said government sources.
