Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) has lined up projects to increase its mining capacity to 80 million tonne (mt) from the present 30.5 mt and power generation to 13,790 mw from 2,490 mw now and 4,290 mw in 2013.
Chairman and managing director of the mini ratna public sector enterprise AR Ansari said, ??funds for the new projects will be met from internal accruals and borrowings??. He said erection and pre-commissioning activities were in full swing for the expansion of the thermal power station-II (TPS-II) at Neyveli by 500 mw and for the 250 mw Barsingsar Thermal Power Project. These two would be commissioned during this financial year.
The coal-based 1,000-mw NLC-TNEB joint venture?NLC Tamilnadu Power Limited (NTPL)?was being implemented and was scheduled to be commissioned during 2012-13.
NLC board has also cleared the implementation of a 50-mw wind energy project and tendering activities for the same was in progress.
??By implementing these projects, the power generating capacity of the power PSU will be increased from the present 2,490 mw to 4,290 mw??, he added.
The projects proposed to be taken up by NLC in the coming years are: a 2,000- mw thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh; 2.5 mt capacity Hadla Lignite mine-cum- 50-mw power project; 13.5 mt lignite mine and 1,600 mw power project at Jayamkondam; 8 mt lignite mine and 1,000 mw power project in Gujarat; 15 mt a year coal mine under joint venture with MCL and a 2,000-mw power project at Ib valley in Orissa; 8-million tonne Mine-III linked to 1000 mw power project at Neyveli and a coal-based 1,000 mw power project in Jharkand.
