The police have booked a woman for allegedly concealing the body of a premature stillborn girl found in the toilets of PGI on Friday. Later, the investigations revealed that the woman was not medically fit and was not aware that she had delivered a baby.

The incident came to light around 3.30 am on Friday, when a security guard found the body of a stillborn girl in the toilets near the labour room. She informed the police and a case of concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body under Section 318 of the Indian Penal Code was registered.

Sources said during investigation, the police traced the woman identified as 28-year-old Sarabjit, a resident of Mohali. The doctors treating her told the police that they had conducted an ultrasound of Sarabjit, which revealed that the foetus had died in the womb. They administered medicine to her for delivery. Since, Sarabjit was also suffering from hypertension she was not aware when the girl was delivered.

The police said they were probing the matter and if the conduct of the woman is found to be aboveboard during the probe, the case registered against her would be cancelled.
