A mimicry artiste with an orchestra in a bar has been arrested for throwing acid on a singer with whom he had an affair.
?The incident took place on Thursday night at Kandivali East. Pratap Gupta (32) a mimicry artiste who claims to have worked for a couple of films, had been in a relationship with Celin Khan (47), a bar singer in Dahisar. For the past few weeks, she had been avoiding him as she reportedly had found another lover. Gupta allegedly started stalking her,? senior police inspector Anant Kenjale, Samta Nagar police, said.
She allegedly went to his house in Bhayandar and told his wife about their relationship. This led to a rift between him and his wife, he said.
?Angered at Khan for causing discord in his marital life, he decided to take revenge. On Thursday night, when Khan was walking to village residence from Dahisar, he accosted her,? said Kenjale. An argument ensued and he took out a bottle of acid from his bag and threw it on her face, he added. Patrolling constables nabbed him.
The woman, who was admitted to Bhagwati Hospital, was discharged after treatment. The injuries were minor.
?The acid was of domestic variety and not strong enough to cause major damage. Khan suffered minor injuries and was discharged after preliminary treatment,? Kenjale said, adding that Gupta shall be produced in court at the earliest.
