Mentha oil prices gained Rs 14.40 to Rs 1,173.80 per kg in futures trade, as traders created fresh positions, driven by pick up in spot demand due to seasonal demand.

Restricted arrivals in the physical market also influenced the mentha oil futures prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, mentha oil for delivery in February delivery gained Rs 14.40, or 1.24 per cent to Rs 1,173.80 per kg, with a trading volume of 347 lots, While March contract edged up by Rs 14 or 1.20 per cent to Rs 1,173.50 per kg, with a business turnover of 89 lots.

Similarly, the oil for delivery in January rose by Rs 11.60, or 0.99 per cent to Rs 1,174.50 per kg, clocked a business turnover of 1,036 lots.

Marketmen said fresh buying by traders following pick up in spot demand and lower arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh pushed up mentha oil prices at futures trade.
