Asked whether she has any doubts, not specifically about politics but about herself, about life, about anything, Oprah Winfrey [endorsing Barack Obama?s White House candidature] gave this answer: ?No, I don?t have any doubts. I really don?t. Because I live in a very spiritual space where I understand the connection that we all have with each other…I really do understand the common denominator in the human experience.?

Barbra Streisand [endorsing Hillary Clinton] also ponders Weighty Matters: ?Madame President of the United States… it?s an extraordinary thought. We truly are in a momentous time, where a woman?s potential has no limitations. Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success…. Smart, capable and strong in her convictions, Hillary has transcended the dictates of what is thought to be possible for our time.?

Oh sweet Jesus… will it never end? Why don?t we just have Babs and Oprah run against each other? I am nauseous from all this crap. Nobody gives a damn about the issues, or they?d be ignoring these [effing] celebrity candidates and start to pay attention to the people who could really lead this country in the manner that we need now. Sadly, we get the leaders we deserve. I want my country back.

Oprah was no surprise. She?s the Queen of Givaways. Oprah stimulates the greed and consumerism in giving everything from clock radios, towels, cars to a bunch of hysterically howling and squealing women. After that, Oprah?s other schtick is to the Altar of Celebrity Worship as she flacks every ?name? she can find. More squealing, screaming, and howling.

Seriously! Who cares?

Conventional wisdom says that celebrity endorsements don?t mean much in politics. Now we?re about to see whether the ?Oprah effect? can do for Barack Obama what it did for Leo Tolstoy. Theoretically, the active support of a popular talk-show host shouldn?t have much impact on Obama?s prospects. But we?re talking Oprah here. Winfrey occupies a unique place in American culture. Winfrey?s support might not make any difference. But if I were running for president, I?d rather have her with me than against me. [On her spiritual space stuff]… if anyone else were to say such a thing, it would sound like New Age newspeak. When Oprah Winfrey says it, you can?t escape the nagging feeling that she knows something the rest of us don?t..
