Amidst the gloom on many fronts, one best thing that happened in 2008 was the J&K elections (?India wins?, Dec 30). The overwhelming voter participation has clearly demonstrated that the Kashmiris voted for peace and prosperity and that they are serious about their growth and well-being. The vote was a strong rebuff to separatists who insisted on a violent solution. The voters have sent out a clear message to the political class by thwarting the designs of separatist outfits. And this positive atmosphere in the valley is good news not only for J&K but also for the whole nation.
