With an aim to accelerate sales in the Indian market, luxury carmaker Automobili Lamborghini is all set to launch its technology-packed supercar, Huracan. The Huracan LP 610-4, which attracted over 1,000 buyers within two months of taking orders, debuts in India on September 22.
Lamborghini, which is owned by Audi AG, thinks India’s super-rich have an appetite for super cars, despite the high taxes. The Italian luxury carmaker aims to sale 30-40 units in the next financial year and is banking on the the new Huracan LP 610-4 to attract new customers.
Speaking to?financialexpress.com, Pavan Shetty, head of Lamborghini India said, “The country’s super-rich, who are our target customers, have an appetite for super cars and despite the high taxes the customer base is growing… Next year we expect our sales to go up to 30-40 units.?
In India, Lamborghini sold 14 units in 2011, followed by 17 in 2012 and 22 in 2013.
When asked if the slowdown in the auto industry has affected the company’s sales, Shetty said there have been some impact but is optimistic about meeting the company’s sales targets.
Towards this end, the company has placed several strategies in place. The carmaker is opening a third one in Bangalore by year-end, in a bid to get a foothold in the South Indian market. It already has two exclusive showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai.
The company is also planning several activities like test drives in several cities including Kolkata, for customers to get a look and feel of a Lamborghini.
Asked about the buying experience of a buyer, Shetty said ?The buying experience for a Lamborghini customer is as good as that of a small car buyer.?
?We also have an extremely good after sales service and cater to all our customers’ needs. We also fly in any replacement part needed by the customers within 10 days,? he added.
At present, Lamborghini sells two models ? Gallardo and Aventador ? which has a top speed of 217mph, in India. Gallardo’s replacement Huracan LP 610-4 is powered by a 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V10 engine, producing a whopping power of 610 bhp, which takes this supercar from 0-100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds, finally touching a top speed of 325 kmph. It breaks new ground with a pioneering hybrid chassis of carbon fibre and aluminium. Huracan LP 610-4 will replace the Gallardo, the brand’s all-time best-seller and predecessor.
The Bologna-based company, founded by tractor magnate Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963, sold has been prospering since being bought by Audi in 1998. It sold twice as many cars in the past decade, compared to previous 40 years. In 2012, the company sold over 2,000 units worldwide.
Lamborghini has only one manufacturing plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, where the company manufactures about 10-11 cars per day.
