The Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) and the Damodar Valley Corp (DVC) on Wednesday signed an agreement for supply of 100 mw in two tranches of 50 mw each to the Adityapur industrial area. Following this, the situation in the area may improve from Thursday.

The power situation in the Adityapur industrial area is so grim that the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCC&I) recently urged almost all the top central and state leaders to take some decisive steps so that the situation could improve. Speaking to FE over phone from Kolkata on Wednesday, JSEB chairman VN Pandey said, ?I am signing an agreement here today with the DVC chairman which would result in supply of 50mw to the JSEB from tomorrow and another 50mw in around eight days? time.?

The pact with the DVC will be a temporary arrangement for a period of three months, particularly to tide over the grim situation.

According to SCC&I vice-president (industry) Alok Chowdhary, the Adityapur industrial area, which houses around 600 units, needs around 100mw per day. However, the JSEB in recent days has been supplying only around 40mw and that too for only 4-6 hours a day, with frequent interruptions.

Pandey said with the DVC expected to re-commission its Mejia power unit shortly, the JSEB would start receiving the second tranche of 50mw from the unit. This will fulfil the quota of 100mw.
