Flaying the Mayawati government as well as the former Mulayam Singh Yadav government for laxity in implementing various entrally-sponsored schemes, the Uttar Pradesh Congress on Friday demanded a white paper regarding the expenditure of such funds.

“The government should issue a white paper regarding the spending of Central funds meant for various welfare schemes not just of this year but also during the tenure of former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav,” UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here.

Presenting the figures, Joshi accused the present and previous regimes of not utilising the money which she claimed had been hiked thrice in as many years for the state’s development. Alleging that funds worth crores of rupees for the development programme fro backward people, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Gramin Rozgar Yojna have not been properly utilised, she claimed that as a result of this, several people were committing suicide.

Maya condemns BJP on Tehelka issue

Reacting sharply over new facts coming to light through Tehelka’s sting operation regarding the 2002 Gujarat riots, Mayawati has requested the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order a CBI inquiry into the matter. A CBI inquiry should be ordered so that the culprits could be punished and it was ensured that such incidents are never repeated again, she said in a letter written to the PM. The new facts have indicated that the BJP government in Gujarat, with the help of some other organisations, had plotted massacre of members of a particular minority community in the wake of Godhara incident.
