A common passion for constant learning and higher education cemented the decision for Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy to select Vishal Sikka as CEO.
While announcing the new CEO, both Murthy and Sikka dwelled on their origins in families of teachers and the high regard they had for the pursuit of learning.
?I am the son of a teacher and in our family the highest honour is reserved for scholars. If there is only one chair and if there is a billionaire, a powerful officer and a scholar that chair will always go to the scholar. Therefore Vishal is something special to me,? Murthy said while introducing Sikka.
?He is a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford. Getting a computer science degree from a university like Stanford is perhaps the highest recognition you can get as an intellectual. Therefore, I am so honoured and so pleased that Vishal has agreed to join Infosys as a CEO,? said the Infosys founder, whose son Rohan Murty is a PhD in Computer Science from Harvard.
?I am also the son of a teacher. My mother used to teach in Gujarat and my father was a railway engineer. To us Indians, even though I am now a citizen of the US, it is a matter of great pride to be here in this company,? Sikka said in his first public utterances as the CEO-designate.
