Industrialised countries must accelerate the measures to reduce their carbon footprints and accept larger cuts on a per capita basis (reduce to 50% from existing levels) before developing countries look into accepting voluntary reductions after 2015-18.

The developed countries should also implement Nicholas Stern?s recommendation of allocating at least 1% of their GDP?s for developing low-carbon technologies. The transfer of these technologies to emerging economies would help them reduce emissions and accept voluntary targets later.

However, I think, India should accept voluntary emission reduction in the future to assume a global leadership and ensure that its industries remain competitive in the low- carbon world by adopting efficient technologies to provide clean and cost-effective products and services to the globalised economy.
